You know that person you can call after weeks or even years of not talking and the conversation just picks up where it left off? That would be exactly how I would describe my friendship with Elisabeth. We met in college over our love for a band and over the years since graduation we have been lucky enough to stay in touch. That means through all the moves to different cities such as Charlotte for me, but LA, Ireland and back to LA again for her. When she comes into town, I beg  ask her to meet me at our favorite coffee place to catch up.

Elisabeth is a scarf person. Even if it might be 90 degrees in LA, that girl always rocks a scarf. Lucky for her, the day she came to visit in Charlotte, we got lots of cold windy weather.

Elisabeth is witty, smart and such a great writer. Check out her blog to see what I mean.

I am not sure if it is the coffee or our friendship, but together they make up a favorite of mine. I can’t tell you how many times something happens in my life and Elisabeth has been there to pick up the pieces, be supportive or just provide a laugh. As much as I hate that she is on another coast, I am so glad that she is just a phone call away. Happy Friday!

Sorry for all the delays, but the last couple of Fridays have been a little nutty. There were visitors from out of town, a Halloween party, some family shoots, one road trip and a really good concert. I don’t know about you, but once fall kicks in, it seems like go time. I’d just hate to blink, because 2010 will be here before we know it.

But before we hit the fast forward button on life, let’s slow down and take a sip. A sip of what you ask? Just some yummy NC Wine. That’s right. I said North Carolina. Travel up north and you’ll see some signs off the highway with cute winery names such as Ray Len or our favorite, McRitchie. No matter where you go, the tastings are worth the trip. Only an hour away from our home there are gravel roads, old farmhouses and sometimes even chickens pecking at grapes that have fallen off the vines.

And don’t even get me started on the beautiful fall colors this time of the year! We are so lucky to live in a place that gets to see all four season, and fall happens to be my favorite season of all.

There is still plenty of time to take a trip for a sip. I recommend mapping out a few wineries, packing a lunch and make your way to the nearest tasting table. This Friday favorite goes great with white or even red. You pick. :)

We are heading to Washington, DC this weekend and if you happen to be traveling also, travel safe!Happy weekend everyone.

Friday Faves | Chances

October 9, 2009

I promise I haven’t dropped off the face of the earth! I picked up a nasty bug last week and I’m still trying to get back to normal.

A few weeks ago, I helped out at a Project HALO adoption event at Birkdale Village. The day started out cloudy with a few showers on the way. I got to the event to find out they were short staffed so after snapping pictures, I jumped at the opportunity to hold a leash and find my new friend a home. I asked the normal questions; how old is the pup? What is his name? And where did he come from? But this time, the last question was the one that took the longest and with reason.

Nacho was turned over to a Greenville, SC shelter and was set to be put down on a Monday. HALO sent information to have him released, and so his new sentence moved to Wednesday. HALO didn’t hear back until that Friday that Nacho was ready to be picked up – escaping death three times. HALO thought it would only be fitting to rename the dog, Chance.

Chance was different to me. Not only his coloring, but his attitude. Being only eight months, he was more of a dog than a puppy. He was calm. He sat to be petted or given attention. He loved his ears rubbed or just to be walked on a leash. He was polite and he reminded me of my friend’s dog named Katie. The lightbulb went off. I walked Chance over to meet my buddy and it was love at first site. They both fell in love and so adoption process began.

A week later and Chance not only has a new home, but a sister who could be his twin. Chance is a Catahoula or leopard dog. He loves his new dog bed, long walks with his new family and kids. He is my Friday Fave because who doesn’t love a happy ending. I am so proud to have been a part of the process of placing a dog into a loving home with a owner who takes chances all the time. This Chance happens to be my favorite.

Hope everyone has a super weekend and if it’s a long one for you, have a great extra day off. Happy Friday!

Friday Favorites | A-Maze-ing

September 18, 2009

Last weekend, a group of us headed to a corn maze up in Huntersville, NC. I’d always passed the sign and thought it would be fun to try it out. The goal is to get all the maze pieces and out of the maze as fast as possible.

The before picture – where everyone is smiling and thinking - it’s a piece of cake!

The average time to complete the maze is 27 minutes. Let’s just say it look us many more minutes and maybe an hour or two to get out.

So we walked. And walk. And then walked some more.

And we looked at the map when we got lost. Which happened a lot.

We made it out with lots of laughs, a little sweat (understatement) and a thirst for some good sweet tea.

Thanks to our buddies that helped us with directions out the maze and also snapping a pictures of our crew. Needless to say, we had a blast and a corn maze is my new favorite thing to do on a fall weekend with friends. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Tish Mackay Photography will be at Birkdale Village in Huntersville, NC this Saturday at 11:30am until 2pm with Project HALO. If you are looking for a new fuzzy best friend, this is the place to be. Hope to see you there!

I really love this time of year. The cool air starts creeping in. Every thing pumpkin flavored starts to brew or bake. The leaves will soon start to hit the ground and sweaters will come out from the back of closets. It is the little things that make fall such a wonderful season. Speaking of little things, I am reminded a little find from an antique flea market found on a random road trip. We were headed back from the wonderful wineries up in the Yadkin Valley of NC when we happen to detour and find a small warehouse. We split up and I headed towards the back. There it was. A little case, almost a purse. I opened it to reveal a treasure – a camera. The paper inside the case told the story that the camera was purchased in 1965. I thought to myself how many things this camera could have seen over the years. I picked up the case and camera and ran to pay for this it. The total cost was $4 dollars. We are not sure if the camera works, but it sits open and on display in our office. It is one of my favorite finds and I can’t wait to find film to load it up and take it out for a spin to see a new world. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Friday Favorite Things

August 7, 2009

To get back into blogging on a regular basis and also to share a little of what goes on in my life, I thought I would share some of my favorite things. We could all use more good news or just fun pics, so here’s where you’ll find them.

This week I thought I would start out with my two favorite things, our dogs. I often refer to them as our mis-matched bookends, due to the size and personality they carry. We have a Yorkie and a Boxer. One is six and the other is three years old. One is 14 lbs. and the other is 63 lbs. One has a huge diva personality and the other is what we call the biggest love-bug ever. One is named after a movie star and the other an NBA team. They both love treats, belly rubs and sneaking into our bed in the middle of the night. They are also the best greeters when we come home at night. And last but not least, they both have nubs as tails that wag when they are happy.

To add, my other favorite thing is that it is FRIDAY! I love this day of the week, because that means the weekend is about to start. That means time to head to the dog park and also cuddle time on the couch. Hope you guys have a great weekend.
